Larry’s Coffee is having another fab Garden Party at their coffee roastery in Raleigh’s Five Points neighborhood. Their facility sprawls across several vintage warehouses tucked behind a neighborhood of 1930’s bungalows and 1940’s ranch houses in what was once the far suburbs of Raleigh. The warehouses are fitted out with solar panels, rain barrels and even a biofuels pump, but the best part is the courtyard between the two main buildings. Bracketed by custom-made gates with huge iron coffee leaves, the courtyard is dotted with chairs, flowerpots, plants and the smell of roasting coffees.
While Larry’s Coffee is open everyday for workers to roast, taste, package and ship their coffee, it’s not always open to the public. These Garden Parties are a great way to see inside the cupping room (where the science of coffee meets your taste buds) or peer into the beautiful roasting spaces. Yes, they smell amazing. You can grab a cup of coffee, or try a beer from Neuse River or Big Boss while you wander around the warehouses. They’ll also be raising money for A Place At The Table, Raleigh’s soon-to-open cafe where everyone eats great food, regardless of means.
