How are you doing today? As I type this to you, we have friends who are out of their homes, artists we know who have lost their life’s work and families who don’t know where they’ll find their next meal.
It can make our little market seem really trivial. Beer? Good food? A new piece of artwork? those seem like such luxuries, because they are. As the storm approached last week we hurridly rescheduled our market for this Saturday, the 22nd, and coordinated with artists and vendors to see who would make it. Our fingers were crossed that the storm would turn and the rainfall would land in the ocean. As the week wore on, and the rain and winds didn’t turn we watched as the rising waters threatened so much of what we love.
Our market will take place this Saturday, from 12-5. We’ll come together with a group of artists and collectors who are glad to be able to continue their work and make space in our hearts for those kept away by the water. There will be hugs and stories will be told. We’ll also be collecting money to support the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, as well as non-perishable foods and diapers. This organization has the teams on the ground to distribute food and supplies to those who need it. Artists at the market will have raffles and discounts for those who donate, and as the week goes on we’ll update you about these opportunities to help.
We are holding the market this Saturday because we want to see you-our friends and neighbors-and to continue to support the artists, craftspeople and vintage vendors in our community. Join us for a few hours.
Whether or not you can make the market on Saturday, we do hope you’ll visit the Food Bank Of Central & Eastern NC‘s website and make a cash donation now. Even a small donation will go a long way to help them provide for those who have lost everything.
